to a 6V6 or 6L6, the result is a tighter, less intense bass reproduction, decent, not too intense mids and a lot of good controllable, dynamic and very present highs and good, natural sounding overtones. Sounds generally rather fender-like, but as the ECL84 tubes sound closer to an EL84 than eg. For real overdrive-tones you definitely will need a pedal. The basic sound is a very sparkling, fast-reacting, dynamic, yet pleasant, natural, warm tube sound, with a generally more American voicing, a mix of sweetness, snappy, sparkling highs, and good overtone reproduction, maybe some sort of a clean Roy Buchanan tone. The peculiarity of this amp is on the one hand the special tube assembly, on the other hand the fact that the preamp is designed completely clean, that is, even with fully turned up gain control the signal doesn't overdrive, also the boost function produces noticeably more volume and some more bite, but does not lead to a more overdriven signal. ![]() Very fine-sounding, for the size quite flexible mini tube amp, especially for friends of good, vivid, clean tube sounds. In countries with other voltages than 220V you will need and additional power transformer and / or maybe a different cable or a plug adapter! Works with 220V AC only! Power cable has EU-plug. Input, 2 x fuses, power plug connection, output for 8 ohm speaker (Output transformer can also easily alternatively be soldered to 6 or 4 ohm from outside!) Do not confuse it with an EL84, which is a pure pentode!)Ĭontrols: from left to right: Gain (pre-amp), Volume (power amp), Tone, 2x3x Miniswitches: Switch 1: Bass Response, Switch 2: Gain Boost. Preamp: 1 x Miltary Grade OTK1 6N2P (Russian equivalent to the ECC83 / 12AX7, but with a slightly different pin assignment, therefore not directly compatible! OTK1 is similar to the American JAN reference.)ĭriver stage and power amp: 2 x Vintage Mullard ECL84 in push-pull operation (the ECL84 is a dual tube in a package, a triode comparable to a 12AT7 / ECC81, and a pentode, with the triode working as the driver stage and the pentode as the power amp. ![]() Point to point handwired Miniamp, Made in Germany.
